Steamboat has a flourishing art community with several local and regional art galleries scattered through downtown and the surrounding areas. You can spend an afternoon or a full day discovering the paintings, sculptures and exhibitions, which capture Colorado life. Below are just a few favorites to get you started.
Wildhorse Gallery
Located in downtown Steamboat, the Wildhorse Gallery brings contemporary realism to life, showcasing a collection of oil paintings, watercolor, pastel and sculptures. The pieces are crafted by local, regional and nationally known artists creating a nice balance of local culture and sophistication. Note that the Wildhorse Gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday, so plan accordingly.
Steamboat Springs Center for Visual Arts
Created in 2009, the Steamboat Springs Center for Visual Arts is a nonprofit organization comprised of local artist members, supporters and volunteers. It was created to offer support and grow the talent of emerging artists of the Yampa Valley region and feature the works of the contributing member artists.
If it works with your vacation plans, try to make it to their First Friday Artwalk. During the self-guided event, select pieces from member artists are on display along the sidewalk for you to enjoy at your pace. It’s a great way to enjoy the beauty of downtown and appreciate the variety and wonderfully diverse art community of downtown Steamboat Springs. Please note that the Steamboat Springs Center for Visual Arts is closed on Mondays.
