One of my favorite places to grab a cold local craft beer is Koholā Brewery. Koholā is the Hawaiian word for whale, and the brewery is named after the thousands of humpback whales that migrate to Maui every winter from Alaska. Tours are offered Tuesday to Saturday, featuring a basic introduction to beer, a visit to the cellar room, and a sampling of select brews. I like to go with a group of friends because the brewery also provides a variety of board games, so you can relax and have fun. If you visit the south side of the island, be sure to stop by Maui Brewing Co. The 45-minute brewery tour concludes with a tasting of their flagship beers, a token for a full beer and a souvenir glass.
Keep in mind, if you don’t feel like venturing out, you can raise a glass right at the resort. Stop by Auntie’s Kitchen during happy hour to enjoy one of their fabulous signature cocktails before watching the sun set. Or try the Inu Pool Bar, located just a short stroll away at The Westin Nanea Ocean Villas: it’s nice to kick back with an ice-cold beer and enjoy the spectacular views of Kā‘anapali Beach.
