The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort is home to rather unique guests. These visitors have comb-like spines, are primarily herbivores, and are excellent climbers. Have you figured it out yet? Cancún's year-round tropical climate is the perfect environment for Mexico's native black iguanas.
As you explore the resort, you'll see that our reptile friends are comfortable roaming the grounds and doing some exploring of their own. Twice a week, you'll have the opportunity to meet and feed a few of the friendlier iguanas like Drako and Moika. I like catching up with them at one of their favorite hangouts — Yamil Lu’um, or Scorpion’s Temple — an ancient Mayan ruin found right on property. Give us a call today so we can make sure you have a chance to interact with our special friends here at the resort.

Our 4 boys loved feeding fruit to the Iguanas more than the Ocean!

This was truly a treat. It was free and available to any guest. They supplied the food and sticks. Gave a little bit of history and information about the iguanas and escorted us to the site, a very short walk from resort pool area. One at a time we were able to feed these friendly guys with lots of time for photos. Super fun for every one, every age.
