The whale shark is the largest fish in the sea, reaching lengths of 40 feet or more—imagine the size of an average school bus—and weighing 20 tons or more. Preferring warm, tropical climates, the waters surrounding Isla Mujeres, Contoy and Holbox are an ideal home for this gentle giant. While intimidating in size and stature, the whale shark predominantly feeds on plankton and small fish found on the surface by filtering them through its large gaping mouth.
From May to September you may embark on a Whale Shark Tour, enabling you to come face to face with these fascinating creatures. Swim and snorkel with them and encounter an abundance of other tropical sea life as well during the experience of a lifetime.

I highly recommend snorkeling with whale sharks! It was utterly amazing to be in the midst of 100 of them, each the size of a city bus, and feel totally safe. Cross one thing off my bucket list!

Unbelievable experience to swim with the beautiful whale sharks. A boat ride out to the location, then two water entries to swim near the fish. An unforgettable event.
