When he was four years old, our son watched a television show about King Tut. He became obsessed with Egypt, mummies and pyramids. We traveled to many places to view museums and attend lectures about Egypt. He even appeared on Egyptian television when we went to Los Angeles to attend an exhibit!
We went on a cruise to visit Greece and Italy and stayed in wonderful properties in each city we visited. The big surprise came when we boarded our boat and asked our then nine year-old son to read the itinerary. He saw that we had an overnight port in Cairo, Egypt and was so excited he cried! We toured the pyramids and spent the night at the Le Méridien Pyramids Hotel, right next to the Pyramids! We swam in the beautiful hotel pool and looked at these imposing structures. We could see the pyramids right from the windows of our hotel room! We dined in the hotel restaurant and even were invited to dance at an Egyptian wedding reception! Our son was so happy and our stay was perfect! The staff was delightful and treated this very young Egyptologist with great respect and kindness. It was truly the highlight of his young life and he often says that Cairo (and the Le Méridien Pyramids Hotel) is his dream vacation destination to revisit. We would love to help him make his dreams of sleeping next to the pyramids come true—again!
