Snorkel with Sea Turtles on St. John

Immerse yourself in one of St. John’s hidden treasures — the unique opportunity to snorkel up-close with the island’s playful sea turtles.

This must-do vacation experience is great for snorkelers of any ability, and an easy activity to include in your schedule while staying at The Westin St. John Resort Villas.

One of the best places to see these friendly creatures is scenic Waterlemon Bay. This protected, relatively secluded area lies along a strand of peaceful beaches on the north coast of the island, just past the historic Annaberg Sugar Plantation (well-worth visiting in its own right).

The sea turtles in Waterlemon Bay are often found just offshore, swimming and grazing among the seagrass. They’re somewhat use to humans, so don’t be surprised if they let you swim up for a closer look. Confident snorkelers can venture out to nearby Waterlemon Cay to encounter sea life including schools of brilliant tropical fish, octopi, and even gentle nurse sharks, which call the area home.

Swimming with the native sea turtles immerses you in the natural habitat of St. John in a way unlike anything else can. Perfect for any nature lover, it’s a signature activity that will leave you with not only great memories, but also a deeper understanding of the ecosystem of this beautiful island.
